Forty years covering politics, the law, urban affairs, industry, business and a wide range of other matters. Stories often required gathering and analyzing voluminous information on complex matters. Was metro columnist for the Houston Chronicle from 2003-2011. Previously was news columnist for the San Antonio Express-News and the now-extinct San Antonio Light for a total of 16 years. Was a reporter and editor for the Seattle Times. Edited two San Antonio city magazines. Published articles in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun and Washington Post. Currently host of “Texas Week with Rick Casey,” a news program for KLRN, San Antonio’s PBS affiliate. Earned a reputation for fairness and for accurate reporting.


Numerous journalistic awards include: Texas State Bar’s Gavel Award for “journalistic excellence that fosters public understanding of the legal system. ”Twice named best general interest columnist in Texas by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. Received the Texas State Teachers Association’s School Bell Award. A journalism scholarship has been established at the University of Houston in Mr. Casey’s honor.


$125/hr per party for two parties. $100/hr per party for more than two parties. For ethical reasons, Mr. Casey will not serve in cases likely to be in the news or that involve a party or parties regularly covered by his news program. In addition, any information he obtains through serving on an arbitration panel will be considered “off the record” for journalistic purposes.
