After graduating from high school Mr. Houston attended and graduated from the University of Texas. He graduated with a BBA in Business Administration and immediately began law school at Baylor University. While at law school, Mr. Houston was a member of the Order of Barristers as well as the Phi Delta Phi fraternity.


Graduating in two and one-half years he began his legal career of Andrews & Kurth in Houston, Texas in litigation. He worked as an associate at Andrews & Kurth from 1987 until 1992 when he left with his current partners and began the practice at Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen. Mr. Houston was named a partner at Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen in 1993. In 2010 Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen changed the firm name to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston. Mr. Houston remains at the firm and is co-managing partner.

Area of Specialization

Mr. Houston has now been in practice as an attorney for over twenty-five (25) years. His practice consists of litigation in many areas including professional malpractice, board complaints, business litigation, and general liability. Mr. Houston became board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law in 1995 and recertified in 2000, 2005 and 2010. He is likewise board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Civil Trial Advocacy.

Membership & Affiliations

Mr. Houston is an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is rated AV, the highest ratings in legal ability and ethical standards, by the Martindale-Hubbel legal rating system. He has been recognized as one of Houston’s Top Lawyers by H Houston Magazine and has also been listed as a “Super Lawyer” in Texas Monthly Magazine every year since 2005.


Mr. Houston is licensed to practice in Texas and Pennsylvania. He is also licensed with the U.S. District Courts in the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western Districts of Texas. He has briefed and argued frequently before the courts of appeals and in the supreme court of Texas. He has tried dozens of trials to verdicts.
